Lack of Social Media Strategy Is Harmful to the Health of Your Brand
From time to time we come across health care groups that are clearly struggling to understand the digital space and how powerful social media has become. From just a short visit to a website, a quick scan of Facebook page or a Twitter account, it is pretty easy to see who is in the (social media) game, who thinks they are in the game, and who has missed the game completely. So, in the spirit of all those warnings that accompany health-related advertisements, we think that ...

Our friends at the NeuroTexas Institute recently completed their second website project with us. Their research division, a separately funded set of programs, can now be found at
http://www.ntiresearch.org/home.aspx.
This site is similar to the main NTI site in terms of the look, feel and brand standards found across all of St. David’s HealthCare’s web properties. It was designed with growth in mind, so that as more research programs are added, the site can also expand. Sitefinity Is the perfect platform for a site like this to be built. As the NTI Research programs expand, they easily add ...

We had to smile this morning when we reviewed HealthLeaders’ Media Marketing Weekly. Industry experts appear to agree with what we’ve been telling our physician clients all along: “Doctor, you have got to be on-line and you have got to engage on-line with your patients.” HealthLeaders’ Marianne Aiello agrees too.
Case in point is Marianne’s frustration with not being able to email her new PCP. She, like so many busy- with-life-do-as-much-as-possible-on-line kind of people, wants to be able to communicate via email with her doctor. Her anecdotal experience is now supported by a study done by Kaiser Permanente (published in ...

Does your medical practice or hospital still need paid telephone directory ads?
Come on, admit it. You’re not sure what to do about that nagging, not so little, budget line for the yellow pages. It arrives on doorsteps all over town without an invitation (still!!!!). It sits under inches of dust, or plants, or props open doors. Your muffler shop is still advertising in there and so is your competitor. You wonder again and again about your ad or ads: “Is this the best use of my marketing dollars?”
Well we’re not yellow pages salespeople and we’re guessing THEY have a compelling reason for your facility ...

Rehabilitation is a service line that crosses the entire St. David’s HealthCare (SDH) Partnership. From multiple outpatient clinic locations to a full service rehabilitation hospital located at St. David’s Medical Center, rehabilitation is a crucial component of several key service lines. The challenge in building this site lay in how to best organize the content in a way that tied all of rehab’s offerings together in one location.
Launched at the end of May, http://www.stdavidsrehab.com joins the SDH family of sites. Visitors to the site can easily access information about the many different types of rehabilitation services, ...

We’ve recently heard a lot of chatter on the web about the phenomena called the “mommy blogger.” This ever-growing, ever-opinioned group of bloggers (who happen to be moms) are being identified and credited for the power of their unified voice. Advertisers are taking notice too. This virtual version of “word of mouth” influencers has some incredible power to influence their followers. So, health care marketers, here’s what you know:
Moms turn to the web for health care information + Moms turn to other moms for advice + Moms make health care decisions for their households = A BIG OPPORTUNITY FOR ...

Attention Doctors:
Carol Roth’s recent blog post “What My Gynecologist Can Teach Your Business about Social Media” has one of those headlines that make you stop and say: “HUH!?” We admit it: we wanted to read this post just based on the headline alone. Clever headline aside, Carol’s blog makes an important point that we have to applaud: “not every social-media strategy is going to be appropriate for every type of business.” Her GYN is a perfect example of this.
Carol explains that while she was waiting on hold with her gynecologist’s office, she was encouraged--by the ‘on hold’ ...

We got a little excited over the article “Patient Outreach Starts Earlier Than You Think” written by Marianne Aiello, for HealthLeaders Media. Using her own experience as a three-time visitor to a local hospital she calls “Boston Hospital,” Marianne recounts the random, and at first, innocuous encounters with the facility’s appearance, the people that work there, the chair in her brother’s room and the café. Again, she wasn’t a patient, she was a visitor, and each encounter left her “indifferent” about her impression of the hospital. She speculates that perhaps receiving a direct mail piece from the facility ...

NEJM Study Confirms Role of Medical Providers in on-line patient research
A seven year survey recently completed by the New England Journal of Medicine revealed that there is a growing skepticism about the health information that people are finding online. The survey also showed that while more and more people first turn to the web to research a medical condition, treatment or procedure, they still look to their medical providers to clarify and discuss their on-line research findings.
With the sheer volume of medical information on the web and the growing role of social media and on-line communities, it is ...

Hospital websites can be huge but should remain informative and easy to use for your visitors. The website can act as the face of your hospital and finding information is key to the end user. Providing them access to the information they need quickly is key to keeping them on your site and provides a positive experience the user will share and ultimately return for.
